What? My stepbrother, Brody doesn't seem to mind at all he will pretty much roll around on anything but I sort of miss the white stuff. For one thing it made it easier to scale over the fence when the humanoids placed the both of us in the backyard. I never had a problem getting out but Brody? Poor lug he's just too big and cumbersome to get out of an enclosed area but not me! The one they refer to as 'Howie' tore down the makeshift, enclosed area that was supposed to give both myself and Brody a place to spend outside but I found it as a challenge to dig through so that I could scale the fence that was supposedly designed to keep me in. Yeah, whatever. Lately though they have had this female over who trains dogs and I have to admit the food is pretty good and I sit already when they ask me so it's easy food. They also got this harness for me to keep me from running when I'm supposed to be walking. it does work though because it has slowed my pace down some. It remains to be seen though what good will come of this animal trainer. So long as the treats are right I guess I'll pretend to follow their program......for now.<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Y9_eJLCRgSo/Sgi0drC8zfI/AAAAAAAAAlg/JICDniR4g-0/s400/brody+big+eyes.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5334712180484656626" /> Here's a pic of Brody who likes to mug for the camera. I remember when I first experienced the snow melting I didn't know what was happening. I mean it was there when I first came into this world and just assumed it would be there all year long. I used the white stuff as my personal toilet and when it disappeared I didn't where to go. After awhile I realized that when the weather got warmer the snow would just go away but would return later in the year. Brody (seen here above rolling around in the snow) will know soon enough that when the snow goes he too will wonder where do I go do my thing when I have to go? He'll find it soon enough. In the meantime I'm going to continue to enjoy what little snow there is left and run around in it for another week or so.

New Year, New Hope (& hopefully new dogfood)

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 314px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Y9_eJLCRgSo/SYOJzq9i2yI/AAAAAAAAAio/KrAhvvErg5c/s320/Brody+%26+Mo+caught+by+the+camera.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5297229107516594978" />Okay so it's been a loooooong time since I have posted here. First off it's tough getting the computer away from those other two claiming they have work to do. Second I am getting used to Brody's presence but he still insists on being "Top Dog" which is ridiculous since I can out run and out bite him any day. We had a good holiday together and the carbon units (Howie and Nancy) gave both Brody and myself chew toys. I guess that was in response to the slippers we chewed up. <img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 260px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Y9_eJLCRgSo/SYOKeBPnNvI/AAAAAAAAAiw/UtkimN6hYHA/s320/Mo+%26+Brody+chewing+on+their+Christmas+toys.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5297229835052463858" />Man that lab will do just about anything I tell him to do but is too dumb at times to know when to stop chewing the human's items. Life has been good so far this year but I have noticed when the thing on the wall that shows moving pictures comes on and it's about the country I see the two of them talking about things that I don't understand. Whatever I am just glad when they turn it off and head out to the hot tub out back. Apparently I'm not allowed to go in there but Brody actually jumped in it! That was hysterical but I don't think the carbun units (Howie and Nancy) were too pleased. All sorts of humans were out in full force with their canine counterparts. I have never seen so many of my own species in one place without having to be in a confined area. I mean don't get me wrong I like going to this new dog park to sniff out the competition and all but to actually be taken on a full fledged walk and get treats along the way was inspiring. <img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Y9_eJLCRgSo/SPkgx2u1gEI/AAAAAAAAAZo/TGS3OKpm6pU/s320/Nancy+gets+Mo+to+sit+first+for+competition.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5258270080809402434" />Apparently they have this annual event called "Mutt Strut" where dogs and their owners come out and stop by various checkpoints and win clues to a grand prize or something to that effect. All I know is that the one we call Nancy signed me up for this musical walking contest where we walked in a circle with all these other dogs and when the music stopped had to sit real quickly because if you were the last dog to sit would be eliminated. I eventually did get the boot but I wasn't the first dog to get eliminated so I didn't feel like a complete loser. I only did it because every time I sat would be given a bacon treat for doing so.<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Y9_eJLCRgSo/SPkhMbkhGUI/AAAAAAAAAZw/pysPHZGTYAU/s320/Brody+giving+Howie+a+kiss+%40+Mutt+Strut.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5258270537374832962" /> There was another contest that I'm glad I didn't have to be a part of. That was the one for who was the best kisser between my species and and our handlers. Gross! Brody seemed to really get into it but then he's new to this family and is easily amused. he's not a bad brother to have because I can out-run him but at ten months old I think he is going to be bigger than me pretty soon. Still, he is slow and is too heavy to jump into the moving vehicle with no legs attached to it when we get to go on a ride. it' starting to get colder here and I look forward to having it snow again and very soon too. it's gonna be hysterical to watch Brody experience the white stuff because he has never seen it and will have a good laugh at his expense when he tries to figure out what it is.

Back to the Dog Park

Me and Brody went to the dog park and 'woof' there are usually a few cool chicks there; sheeze though, if I'm not careful the dudes there tend to get a little desperate taking turns - ya gotta watch your back at the dog park. I've never been at a dog park and was wondering how I would react when placed into an environment with other canines.<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Y9_eJLCRgSo/SNL8iUB3EYI/AAAAAAAAARg/4NolhvITraE/s320/Mo+and+new+friends+at+Dog+Park.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5247534182262313346" /> I was a little nervous at first because all of the dogs seemed to know some of the other dogs. And there were some big dogs here too! Many of them rushed me when I came into the fenced in area designed for my species. There is another section for smaller dogs but where I was there were a few small dogs who held their own pretty well.<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Y9_eJLCRgSo/SNL8H69PoOI/AAAAAAAAARY/GGgToprjtMc/s320/Brody+and+some+friends+at+Dog+Park.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5247533728855466210" />My new 'brother' (Brody) adapted very quickly when he entered the dog park. He eats a lot, is constantly tipping over the water bowl, eats some of my food, tries to hog all of the attention and doesn't need to be tied up when outside. <img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Y9_eJLCRgSo/SLctRYkzSII/AAAAAAAAAP4/5n976tHhkwU/s320/Mo+and+Brody++eye+each+other+in+the+boat.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5239706468146694274" />What kind of example is he, Brody setting around here anyway? Monday the caretakers (along with her son and his girlfriend) took both me and the lazy one (Brody) out on a boat to see how we would get along. I didn't have much of a choice my only option either jumping overboard or knocking his lazy Lab ass over the side. Okay, so it is nice having someone to play with and sometimes it does get a little lonely until those two weird individuals that walk upright come home and play with me. All I can say is that the jury is still out (whatever that means but the two humanoids also use that expression frequently) so I'll be writing back on here to see if any other friends from the canine community have gone through similar changes. <img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Y9_eJLCRgSo/SLcvtCODUPI/AAAAAAAAAQI/Y_dEZxsVVpI/s320/Mo+shows+what+he+thinks+of+Brody.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5239709142205288690" />At least he (Brody) knows I'm the boss but at seven months of age I fear he is going to outgrow me real soon. Maybe I can use him as a shield to ward off other dogs? We'll see.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://howienaveandhisdogmo.blogspot.com/2008/08/whats-this-new-dog-lives-here.html' title='What's This? This being my first Summer Olympics I watched with some interest but when it became apparent that there were NO canine competitions I lost my desire to watch other than the opening ceremony. However, I went to the Chinese website for dogs and how they live over there and thought this might be a good time to get some traveling in. They're kind of strict out here when it comes to having all your proper shots and tags but over in China they seem to have a better lifestyle unless you're from Tibet. I'll have to judge for myself so today I start digging my way to China. Not sure how far I'll get but I'm hoping if there's ever a competition for digging I can go for the gold.

Summer Fun

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Y9_eJLCRgSo/SJD5YHuwbrI/AAAAAAAAALY/pRlurSedcXM/s200/Mo+puts+the+bite+on+Arnold+the+little+vampire+dog.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5228953360164482738" />
So, Simone moved earlier this month and I was feeling rather bummed by the whole experience. It's not like there are a lot of available bitches in the area so yeah, I don't like it at all truth be told. With summer half way over there have been a few fellow canines that have caught my eye (if not my tail) and even though they aren't part of the neighborhood they're still friends one in particular. Arnold has become the next best thing to Simone when it comes to just messing around. I couldn't even tell you where Arnold lives but I know his owners have been by at out at our place sans his leash. I hope Arnold cruises back soon as I tend to bore easily and as much as I like that Howie guy (and Nancy too) I need more of the four-legged type of friends to hold my interest.

Spring Brings Renewal

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Y9_eJLCRgSo/SE3-hxB99AI/AAAAAAAAAJ4/RwA32U5-Thk/s320/Mo+and+his+girlfriend,+Simone.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5210100199988261890" />
So here it is springtime in Tahoe and already I have been getting offers to hang out with some new pals in the neighborhood. I'm still getting hassled by these other dominant dogs so it's a good idea to stay indoors when I can. Simone still drops by on a daily basis but I think it's because she isn't getting enough food where she lives and I have more than enough to share (although when she goes for the steak bone that's pushin' it). This past weekend Simone dropped by and I had a good time and when she drops by alone things are great. How come she can't bring some of her friends by instead of those bullies who try to get all territorial on me? Well, I guess once again this is a good reason to have those two humans around.

Out on the boat

So there I was, the only one with any real intelligence out on the lake enjoying this spring weather. <img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Y9_eJLCRgSo/SDNJCLs4nvI/AAAAAAAAAJA/UzNLErZSnOI/s320/Mo+in+Emerald+Bay,+Lake+Tahoe.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5202582296392670962" />Usually I'm on land trying to track down the fellow dogs that are sometimes my friends (sometimes we fight if they're not) but today I was able to travel out with the two caretakers and this guy who has a funny name: Rocky. I have a few friends but they never seem to be around when you're in trouble you know? I'm given a pretty decent free reign of the neighborhood. However, what with spring in the air and Simone just down the street there have been some uninvited strays. I know I bark a little too much at times and my defense skills are lacking so I decided now was a good time to take some karate lessons down at the 'Y' so......as of today I am now a yellow belt perfecting my chops using the 'Elwood Palm Strike' of attack. Right now it only seems to work when practicing with the humans who care for me but I'll let you know how it works out there in the real world.

Wow what a road trip!

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;"src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Y9_eJLCRgSo/SAOq8s2xb8I/AAAAAAAAAFo/JxO0kRNPqok/s320/Mo+hangin%27+ten+as+waves+crash+in+Malibu.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5189179155470708674" />Okay, so in the past when the two caretakers (who by the way have fund some of the bones I had buried because of the melting snow) have gone on a holiday I get placed in the fine care of one of Tahoe's finest kennels and even though I might not like it there's always a new bitch that is sometimes boarded nearby. However.......this time around I was able to travel with the two who walk and feed me (I don't know their names but they eat the same food together and never eat what I eat). I had never been in that device that moves on wheels for such a long time but when it did stop I had to mark everything in case I was left in this strange area. The first night I stayed in some place called 'Malibu' which I think means "expensive bones" or "little tea cup poodle" judging by the size of the canines down here. I was also treated to my first ever view of a body of water that was not Lake Tahoe. This body of water not only tasted salty but there were like these huge waves that I had never seen before! From my balcony (I don't think I was supposed to be in this room because there were no other canines to be found) I could almost taste the spray that came from these waves. It truly was incredible. Not only did I get to bark at these waves but the loudness from their crashing was something I had never experienced before. <img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Y9_eJLCRgSo/SAOsMs2xb9I/AAAAAAAAAFw/RvoA5w7Zc30/s320/Mo+strolling+along+the+beach+in+Malibu.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5189180529860243410" />I ran along the shore to see how far this body of water stretched but as usual I was hauled back in by that leash device which limits my ability to so leave my caretakers in the dust (well, in this case sand). The best part I liked about staying in Malibu was that I had my own bed! Apparently the room on the beach came with two beds and although I stayed on their bed once the caretaker with the guitar started snoring I immediately jumped over to the other bed and soon started snoring myself. <img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Y9_eJLCRgSo/SAOue82xb-I/AAAAAAAAAF4/4dwExfyy2BM/s320/Mo+wrapped+up+in+sheets+in+Malibu.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5189183042416111586" />The sheets were to die for and I had my own pillows for once. I wish I could have stayed here longer. After a day or so visiting with the snoring one's mom in a place where people seem to move slower than my ability to get dogfood, I found myself at The Grand Canyon. Talk about a place for burying bones wow!<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;"src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Y9_eJLCRgSo/SAOwL82xb_I/AAAAAAAAAGA/R1FLDY4Akig/s320/Mo+%40+The+Grand+Canyon.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5189184915021852658" />This place was truly incredible (that's the language my human caretakers kept calling it) and there was no way I could have marked my territory here. First off it was very large and second I didn't have enough pee. I spent a lot of time in that metallic vehicle sticking my head out the window but at 75 mph (sometimes 80 even) made it rather difficult to sniff for anything worthwhile.<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Y9_eJLCRgSo/SAO2ws2xcBI/AAAAAAAAAGQ/FDjYBI6NrPQ/s200/Mo+grabbing+a+quick+drink+off+US+395.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5189192143451811858" /> I did look forward though to getting a routine down and realized every time this motorized contraption came to a stop it meant I got to get out and sometimes I was able to run around all over the place and other times go wading in an ice cold creek. I really had a good time but was happy to be back home and sleep in the same place even if it did mean sharing the bed again.<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Y9_eJLCRgSo/SAOyVM2xcAI/AAAAAAAAAGI/3JOjn7xI_Xs/s320/Mo+sticks+his+head+out+window+on+way+home.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5189187272958898178" />

I Was Called 'Diva Dog' Yesterday....

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Y9_eJLCRgSo/R-RFkiTXCQI/AAAAAAAAAFI/DEm48P511hI/s320/Mo+grins+up+close.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5180341965368527106" />
Wasn't supposed to hear it but yesterday I overheard my veterinarian say to my caretakers about me being a diva. She said the reason I chew things up is because I need plenty of attention. Me? Okay so I get bullied at times when the other dogs in the county gang up on me and I high tail it out of fear but a diva? I'm trying to socialize but why should I hang out with the other dogs when it's raining when I have a doggie door nearby that leads to a nice warm bed with a bowl of food and a beverage? So go right ahead and refer to me as a dive because I say if owners resemble their pets then guess who too is a diva? It's bad enough that coyotes and the occasional bear have crossed my path (a bear last night) but when other dogs start ganging up on me I wonder why they haven't accepted me. I tried running with them but would rather spend my evenings upstairs in bed with those two who make me feel safe. Maybe I should be more wild but when I get hungry and know where to go for the food my bark is bigger than my ability to scrounge for food that means biting. They have been pretty good about letting me out and even though that doggie door gives me the best of both worlds in all honesty at night they can close it because I'm not moving from that comfortable bed upstairs. I can still be the big dog and bark outside at anything I see from the safety of the house just don't tell my caretakers okay?

Checking out the North Shore of Lake Tahoe

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Y9_eJLCRgSo/R97akdlODRI/AAAAAAAAAEg/34kr08OLROw/s320/Mo+looking+skyward+from+North+Lake+Tahoe.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5178816941473533202" />
So here I am admiring the beauty of the lake when all of a sudden I look up and see what appears to be either a Frisbee or a UFO in the shape of one. I usually have the run of the entire neighborhood but I guess when the vacation rentals bring the kids I have to stay close to home which I don't enjoy. Just the other night I got out before that leash was put on me and made the caretakers of me chase me down! What fun that was! I was tackled eventually (that sucked) and brought back into the confined area.They did take me for a brief walk and then it was in that loud mechanical thing with the headlights. Man that thing moves! I can barely make out what it is I'm sniffing because it travels at such a high rate of speed! Anyway, it was nice to get out even if it wasn't for the usual walk where I can snif everything and leave my mark. My parents think they taught me how to come home when they have a treat but I know better! When I see them getting their coats on I know they are really going to get in that big machine again so unless I see a really good treat I don't listen and instead I have fun watching them try all sorts of silly tricks to get me to come home. That is so valley-like to ask what I, a mountain dog would do for entertainment. When indoors and bored from chewing the humans' belongings I enjoy spinning around trying to chew this thing that is called a 'tail.' That alone eats up a lot of time but when not doing that will try and hook up with one of the out-of-town dogs that come up for a weekend. Always fun when you get a visitor up here although some of these dogs find it tough adapting to the elevation that is Lake Tahoe. I should be happy I have a place to sleep at night (on the bed with those two) and not run away from home especially in this weather. Maybe I'll wait until spring before attempting a road trip.
